Following the severe earthquakes centred on Kahramanmaraş, MÜSİAD is taking an active role in the disaster region with its logistics and humanitarian aid activities. Stating that they urgently dispatched basic food, shelter and search and rescue equipment to the disaster region, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı said that MÜSİAD would build a container city in Kahramanmaraş for the citizens affected by the earthquake.

The Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD) transferred all its strength to the disaster region in a very short time through its domestic and international organizations following the earthquakes that caused great destruction in 10 provinces centred on Kahramanmaraş. The statement released by MÜSİAD announced that, apart from in-kind aid for the earthquake victims, a Container City would also be built in the region with the permission of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye and under the coordination of AFAD.

MÜSİAD, which has made more than 2000 shipments to the disaster region since the date the earthquake occurred, has placed 500 thousand packs of ready-made food, 800 thousand loaves of bread, more than 4 million 200 thousand units of water, nearly 65 thousand coats and boots, more than 150 thousand blankets and 200 caravans at the service of the earthquake victims. MÜSİAD volunteers, who have reached the disaster region from all over the country, are continuing their work without slowing down.

"We Are One and Together for Our Nation"

Sharing his assessments on the subject, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı said: "Thanks to the matching coordination and division of tasks that MÜSİAD has established among its domestic branches, the field kitchens set up in 10 provinces provide uninterrupted hot meal service to our citizens affected by the earthquake. In addition, our volunteer teams provide food and basic necessities to our citizens in the villages and neighbourhoods affected by the earthquake. We gather the basic food and necessities we obtain from facilities and warehouses across the country at our logistics centres in the disaster region and dispatch them immediately to the areas in need. We have started work to set up a field hospital in the disaster region."

Stating that the international organizations are also contributing to this effort wholeheartedly, President Asmalı emphasized that MÜSİAD branches and members in different parts of the world are acting in full coordination. President Asmalı added that truck convoys loaded with generators, hospital beds, wheelchairs, blankets, heaters and basic necessities, prepared with the contributions and coordination of the international members, had set off from different locations abroad to be delivered to the disaster region.

In his statement, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı also recalled that they supported the search and rescue efforts in the disaster region with a large number of construction machines, and said: "Today is the day to be united. We will heal our wounds together and rise to our feet together. We stand shoulder to shoulder with all our organizations for our country; we are one and together for our nation".

A Container City of 2000 Container Homes Is Being Built in Kahramanmaraş Elbistan

In addition, the statement released by MÜSİAD reported that a furnished Container City with 2000 container homes would be built for the citizens affected by the earthquake in the Elbistan region of Kahramanmaraş, with the permission of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye and under the coordination of AFAD.

Announcing that it had started work on the container homes in order to meet our citizens' shelter needs before the permanent earthquake housing, MÜSİAD opened a separate donation account and invited those who wish to contribute to this donation campaign. The homes in the Container City were designed to be 21 square metres and to have a kitchen, a bathroom and a toilet. The homes will also contain white goods, an armchair and a table, kitchen utensils and a heating system. At the same time, the container city area will have infrastructure and landscaping, a health centre, a nursery, a masjid, and administrative and service buildings.

In the statement, MÜSİAD said: “As we have for 33 years, we will continue to be wherever our country needs us, saying ‘One and Together’; we will share our nation's sorrow and joy together”.

It is preparing 5000 hygiene kits for women in the earthquake region

MÜSİAD Women, which continues its work within MÜSİAD, has also taken action for the women affected by the earthquake in the disaster region.

Preparing special hygiene kits for women alongside necessities and shelter materials, the MÜSİAD Women group said in a statement on its social media account: "Together with the esteemed ladies of our MÜSİAD family, following the earthquake disaster centred on Kahramanmaraş, we are preparing 5000 women's hygiene kits that are essential for our women in the disaster region.
