On the 6th anniversary of July 15, we condemn the FETÖ coup attempt, its domestic and foreign collaborators and its national and international supporters. We commemorate with mercy and gratitude our esteemed martyrs who wrote a historic epic of resistance and resurrection against the treacherous coup attempt, and we wish our heroic veterans a healthy and long life. We wholeheartedly congratulate our noble nation, of which we are proud to be a member, for courageously standing up for the national will and for our democracy. We extend our gratitude to our President, Mr Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who led the struggle for independence waged against the coup plotters and the occupiers.
On this occasion, as MÜSİAD, we declare once again that we are always on the side of democracy and the national will whatever the cost, and that in the future, as in the past, we will fight against every kind of coup and coup attempt.
One of the aims of all coups without exception, whether military or civilian, is the transfer of resources, wealth and income. In this sense, what was targeted on July 15 was the Turkish economy, which had closed its debt to the IMF in 2013, which had been growing positively for 27 quarters, which had brought its financial and fiscal discipline to a stable structure and which was preparing to implement many major projects.
Although the markets returned to their normal functioning with the successful policies of the economic administration immediately after July 15, this treacherous coup attempt has of course had serious costs. According to the initial determinations, it is possible to say that this cost, which is approximately 300 billion lira, increases even further when its effect on the sub-sectors is also taken into account. At the stage we have reached today, when the current size of our economy is considered, it is seen that the cost caused by the treacherous coup attempt has not been able to overshadow the gains achieved in fiscal terms over the last 20 years. In this context, our nation, which stood up for its will on July 15, saved not only our democracy but also the Turkish economy. Had the coup attempt succeeded, a dark period for Türkiye would undoubtedly have begun in many respects.
We emphasize once again that we will always uphold the memory of our esteemed martyrs and heroic veterans who, by sacrificing their lives, saved from the coup plotters and the occupiers our Türkiye, which will enter a new period of surge in the hundredth year of our Republic, and that we will protect what they entrusted to us. As MÜSİAD, we will continue to fight against every kind of obstacle standing before a prosperous, independent, developed and democratic Türkiye. We will not forget the treacherous coup attempt and the July 15 Epic of National Will, and we will not let them be forgotten…
