Adnan Bostan, Chairman of the Global High Board of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD), made a written assessment regarding the statement of 2 French doctors who said that the vaccines and drugs to be developed against the new type of Coronavirus (Covid-19) "should be tested in Africa".
Bostan noted the following in his statement:
The Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, which emerged in the city of Wuhan in China and took hold of the entire world in a short time, dragged all the countries of the world into a serious crisis in both material and moral terms.
The only way for us to win the war against the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the common enemy of humanity, is for humanity to set aside the differences arising from skin colour, religious belief and cultures and to struggle in unity and solidarity. We believe that it is essential for global solidarity and struggle that humanity engage in information sharing in this process, and that the states which are strong especially in economic and technological terms rush to the aid of other countries with all the means and power in their hands.
This being the case, we find shameful on behalf of all humanity the recommendations made in recent days by two French doctors for the vaccines and drugs to be developed against the new type of Coronavirus (Covid-19) to be tested in Africa. As MÜSİAD, we see this unfortunate approach as a manifestation of the colonialist and self-centred practices that stand as a black stain in the history of the West.
As MÜSİAD, we continue our activities without slowing down with our 2 branches and 9 representative offices in Africa. We maintain our connection with the whole of Africa through our organizational network, notably Sudan, South Africa, Mauritania, Benin, Chad, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia and Tanzania, and we state that, as in the whole world, in Africa too we act in unity and solidarity against this outbreak that threatens humanity.
In line with this understanding, we once again condemn the racist and appalling approaches in France, and we call on humanity to struggle in unity and integrity against the Coronavirus pandemic.
