SAMEKS, which as of the end of 2022 has maintained its quality of being a leading indicator regarding the economy of Türkiye for exactly 10 years, made a positive start to the first month of 2023.
In January 2023, the seasonally and calendar adjusted SAMEKS Composite Index continued its course above the reference value at 54.3 points, increasing by 0.9 points compared to the previous month.
In this period, the Services Sector SAMEKS Index, which recorded an increase of 0.5 points compared to the previous month, maintained its upward trend at 54.3 points. The Industry Sector SAMEKS Index, which rose by 2.6 points compared to the previous month to the level of 55.2, also played a determining role in the increase observed in the Composite Index. Thus, while the uninterrupted monthly upward trend in the industrial sector reached its 18th month, the services sector also carried its expansion process to its 5th consecutive month.
While input purchases across the services sector maintained their strong course in January as well, the increase in business volume gained momentum accordingly. In the positive outlook in the industrial sector, on the other hand, the effects of orders recording a rapid increase compared to the previous month were observed.
As a result of these developments, the seasonally and calendar adjusted SAMEKS Composite Index, which increased by 0.9 points compared to the previous month and stood at the level of 54.3, maintained its positive outlook of the past year in January as well and indicated that the vitality in economic activity continued in the new year.
Sharing his assessments regarding the SAMEKS data for January 2023, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı said, “The SAMEKS Composite Index, which remained above the reference value of 50 throughout 2022, maintained its positive course at 54.3 points in January 2023, increasing by 0.9 points compared to the previous month. Pointing to the fact that economic activity has gained momentum in the industrial and services sectors, SAMEKS instils confidence in the markets”.
