MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı shared his assessments regarding the GDP figures for the first quarter of 2022 announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).
In his statement, President Asmalı made the following statements:
“As we also stated at the end of February, when it was announced that the Turkish economy had grown by 11 percent in 2021, today as yesterday we continue to believe in our country's economic growth capability and potential. The growth rate of 7.3 percent for the first quarter of the year demonstrates the justness of our faith in our national economy.
In this period, in which the Euro Area grew by 5.1 percent, China by 4.8 percent, Germany by 3.8 percent and the USA by 3.5, our country ranked 3rd, after Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom, among the G20 countries whose growth figures for the 1st quarter have already been announced, and has sustained its positive decoupling.
Thus, the ailments of the global ecosystem, which experienced a new shock following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in addition to the continuing negative effects of the post-pandemic process on supply chains and the clear emergence of the danger of global inflation particularly through energy and food prices, have been unable to prevent the Turkish economy from sustaining its strong growth performance.
On this occasion, as MÜSİAD, we reiterate our belief that the Turkish economy will grow above current forecasts in 2022 as well. The Turkish business world will continue to carry the strength it draws from the gains of the past 20 years into the future, and our country will succeed in rapidly leaving behind all incidental shocks, above all inflation.”
