MÜSİAD President Abdurrahman Kaan made a written statement following the Expanded Financial Stability and Development Committee (FİKKO) meeting held under the chairmanship of Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak.
Kaan noted the following in his statement:
The extraordinarily destructive impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the global economy points to a process of uncertainty the like of which we have not encountered before. This process, which has caused serious contractions on both the supply and the demand side, has now begun to be seriously described as “the greatest economic shock in history”. Within this scope, we too, as the representatives of the business world, are devoting intensive effort to ensure that this crisis, which has also seriously affected our country, is overcome with the least damage by both our producers and our consumers. While on the one hand, thanks to the measures taken and the incentives provided by the economic administration, we strive to continue producing by preserving our production and service capacity and to protect employment; on the other hand we continue our work in order to be able to evaluate the possible opportunities for the post-crisis period.
Through the Coronavirus Crisis Center we established with this thought in mind, we continue to serve as a bridge between field activities and policy work by conveying the problems, findings and proposals of our member enterprises to the economic administration. As of now, we have conveyed more than 130 opinions, proposals and demands received by our Crisis Center to the relevant Ministries. At the same time, we are also following the field implementations of the announced economic support packages. Within this scope, at the Expanded Financial Stability and Development Committee meeting organized under the chairmanship of our esteemed Minister Berat Albayrak so as to cover all economic actors, we had the opportunity to convey our demands regarding the virus outbreak process. Until the negative impact of the outbreak process on our national economy is entirely eliminated, we as MÜSİAD will continue to play an active role in all consultation mechanisms. On this occasion, we extend our thanks to the economic administration on behalf of all our members representing the sectors; and we reiterate our belief that with this spirit of unity and solidarity we will reach our macro and micro targets in a more assured manner.
