MÜSİAD Supplier Days

29 May 2024

Esteemed representatives of the business world,

Esteemed members of the press,

Dear MÜSİAD Family,

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and gentlemen…

Welcome to our “Supplier Days” event, held in partnership between our MÜSİAD Construction and Building Materials Sector Board and our MÜSİAD Trade Office; you have honoured us with your presence…

Distinguished guests, dear MÜSİAD Family,

The construction sector, just as it is a leader in economic growth, at the same time assumes a determining role in the demands of sub-sectors. Especially when assessed from the perspective of developing countries, the construction sector emerges as a privileged sector.

When we look at our country’s line of economic development over the last 20 years, we have witnessed many times that the construction sector has always assumed a leading role and that it has revitalized and set in motion a great number of different sectors and sub-sectors.

Therefore, by benefiting from this effective aspect of the construction sector, we have managed to obtain very important gains for our country over the last 20 years. In this sector, in which we have obtained great gains through our labour and our efforts, God willing

we will continue in the periods ahead as well to achieve great successes and to contribute to our country.

Indeed, the most recently announced figures also show that the sector continues to make a positive contribution to our country’s GDP growth.

Following the earthquake disaster we experienced, the construction sector continued to support economic growth in the last quarter of 2023 as well, through the effect of the reconstruction activities carried out.

In this period, construction activities recorded their fastest annual growth of recent years at %10.8 on an annual basis, while at the same time contributing 0.5 points to our country’s growth. When we consider this amount from the point of view of the national economy, it points to an extremely significant contribution.

The construction sector, for the whole of 2023, grew by %7.8 and entered a course of serious recovery.

Our country continues, as always, to be the locomotive of the construction sector on a global scale. The Turkish Contractors Association, and the magazine Engineering News Record, one of the publications following the international construction sector, have a “list of the best” which each year is based on the revenues that contractors obtained in the previous year from their activities outside their own countries.

According to the 2023 results of this list, named the “List of the World’s Largest 250 International Contractors”, Türkiye was included in the list with a total of 40 companies.

Despite major global problems such as the Russia-Ukraine War experienced in recent years, with its performance in 2022 our country took its place on the list as the world’s

second-ranked country. China was the first country with its 81 companies on the list, while the United States of America was the third country with 39 companies.

Together with this successful step by our country, its share of the global construction market stood at the level of %4.4.

Dear MÜSİAD Family, esteemed business people,

Today, because our country, which holds the vision and the claim of the Century of Türkiye, stands on the threshold of a new stage on the road of development, we know that it will follow a very successful course in the construction sector. Especially when we consider 2024, we foresee that important steps will be taken both in terms of public fiscal balances and in terms of foreign trade.

We have full confidence that our country, which has carried the flag of exports to more than 200 countries and which has made very great strides in many fields from the economy to infrastructure and urbanization, from education to health, will maintain this success in the coming period as well and will enter among the world’s 10 largest economies in the “Century of Türkiye”.

Dear members of MÜSİAD,

In order to realize this important goal, as MÜSİAD we always show the will to put our shoulder to the wheel. Not only for the construction sector whose event we are holding today, but in order to create added value in all sectors, as MÜSİAD we will continue to work and to produce without ever stopping and without tiring.

Because MÜSİAD means working and struggling so that Türkiye takes its place in the world as a strong country.

Because MÜSİAD means being one, being united and being together.

I hope that today’s event, too, will constitute one of the concrete and important outputs of such an effort.

Dear MÜSİAD Family,

Through our “Supplier Days” events, thanks to B2B table meetings held by appointment, we try to offer you the opportunity to come together and establish contact with the companies that will provide the greatest benefit to your business. In this way, we aim to help our members increase their commercial activities and to contribute to their business.

At our event, we aim to bring together the leading contracting companies of the construction sector with the parties that supply goods, products and services to these companies, and thereby to create an effective acquaintance and cooperation.

I pray to Almighty God that this fine event will bring abundance and blessing first and foremost to our country, and to the sector, to MÜSİAD and to all our members.

I would also like to thank our sponsor companies that supported “Supplier Days”, and our MÜSİAD Construction and Building Materials Sector Board and our MÜSİAD Trade Office, which organized our event.

As I conclude my remarks, I greet with respect and reverence all the business people who contribute to our MÜSİAD with their efforts, their labour and the sweat of their brow, and who provide added value to our country’s economy…

May God protect you.

Mahmut Asmalı

President of MÜSİAD
