MÜSİAD continues its work that will contribute to regional development within the scope of the Türkiye Free of Terrorism Project. In this framework, visits were carried out regarding the “International Textile Trade Centre” project planned to be implemented in Van by the Textile, Leather and Ready-Made Clothing Sector Board.
The visits were attended by MÜSİAD Textile, Leather and Ready-Made Clothing Sector Board Chairman Hayrettin Gümüşkaya, MÜSİAD Van Branch President Abdullah Aras and MÜSİAD Van Branch Vice President Reşit Yaren.
The delegation first visited Van Governor Ozan Balcı at his office. In the meeting, the contributions the project would make to the regional economy and to employment were addressed. Governor Balcı stated that the state is ready to provide the necessary support to pave the way for regional investments.
Subsequently, in the meeting held with Van Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Nejdet Takva, it was emphasized that, together with Van's strategic location, the centre could become a trade base not only for the city but for the entire region.
The delegation then visited Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Şevli. Rector Şevli drew attention to the importance of university–industry cooperation and stated that the university could contribute to the training of a qualified workforce.
Finally, the MÜSİAD delegation, which met with Van Development Agency Secretary General İbrahim Güray, received positive feedback that the project is compatible with the agency's development plans and that every kind of support could be provided for the feasibility studies.
As a result of the visits carried out, it was decided to establish a working committee for the project, and thus a concrete step was taken towards the implementation of the “International Textile Trade Centre” with the full support of local stakeholders.
MÜSİAD Textile, Leather and Ready-Made Clothing Sector Board Chairman Hayrettin Gümüşkaya, in the assessment he made during the visits, said:
“Van can become an attractive centre for textile investments. With this project the region's production and export capacity will increase further. In a period when the sectoral economic contraction is intensely felt, the project is a specially designed one that brings together İstanbul's design, marketing and sectoral experience with Anatolia's production facilities under favourable conditions, providing high competitive advantages and cost advantages in which new-generation export methods will be applied in the clearest way; a detailed announcement will be made to the public after protocols are signed with all parties”, he said.
