The IBF Food Security and Protection of Generations programme, held within the scope of MÜSİAD EXPO, addressed food safety and the threats facing future generations through panel sessions. Speaking at the event, IBF Chairman Erol Yarar stated that food security should be assessed comprehensively together with the risks it creates, and not merely as an economic concept.
MÜSİAD EXPO, organized by the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD), opened its doors at the TÜYAP İstanbul Fair and Congress Centre. On the second day of the fair, held for the 19th time this year, the 26th International Business Forum (IBF) was held with the theme of Food Security and the Protection of Generations.
IBF Chairman Erol Yarar: The dangers that genetically modified foods will pose to the human generation must be analysed carefully
Speaking at the programme, IBF Chairman Erol Yarar pointed out that the world has been drawn into a great transformation especially after the pandemic period, and said that food security has given rise to a serious debate. Stating that the use of clean and halal food should be made widespread for healthy generations, Chairman Yarar expressed that they aim to raise awareness with the Food Security and Protection of Generations programme:
"The global crises caused by the pandemic and by conflicts have put food security at risk. In those same periods, the disruption of the supply and logistics chain brought even greater problems with it. But this is not the only problem. Changes in the field of food cause hormonal disorders and trigger various health problems. This situation also threatens our generations. Therefore, by bringing together for the first time the issues of food security and the protection of generations, we are placing on the agenda our wish to secure the lives of our tomorrows. Because changes concerning the safety of food also directly affect human health and genetics. Humanity must strive not only to survive, but to be healthy."
Stating that it is unacceptable for the fear of hunger emerging worldwide to change dimension through genetically modified foods, IBF Chairman Erol Yarar said, "We must carefully analyse not only an economic concept such as food security and natural phenomena, but also the risks this situation will create and the dangers that genetically modified foods will pose to the human generation."
Chairman Yarar said that the Food Security and Protection of Generations programme was addressed through the panel sessions "Factors Threatening Food Security", "The Importance of Halal and Clean Food in Nutrition and the Protection of Generations" and "The Protection of Generations in Treatment and Nutrition".
MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı: Independence passes through the health of the future
MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı, who shared his assessments at the Food Security and Protection of Generations programme, pointed to the importance of food security in raising healthy generations. He stated that the problems created by the unconscious use of pesticides in agriculture, by the increase in genetically modified products and by global crises can be overcome through sensible steps.
"MÜSİAD, which sprouted from Anatolia and took root in every corner of the world, shapes its work with an understanding that places human values at its centre. In this framework, access to halal and clean food is among the most valuable components of these values. Because ensuring the development and welfare of healthy generations is possible through food security. If unconscious practices in agriculture are prevented, we will not only heal the soil but also protect our tomorrows. Alongside the agriculture meetings we held in Adana and Elazığ, we aim to build this awareness through events we will organize in different regions. We are aware that sensible steps taken at the right time will enable us to protect our generations. Because independence passes through the health of the future."
