Following the severe earthquakes centred on Kahramanmaraş, MÜSİAD is playing an effective role in the disaster area with its logistics and humanitarian aid activities. Stating that they had urgently dispatched basic food, shelter and search-and-rescue equipment to the disaster area, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı said that MÜSİAD would build a container city in Kahramanmaraş for citizens affected by the earthquake.
The Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD) transferred all of its strength to the disaster area within a very short time through its domestic and international organizations following the earthquakes that caused major destruction in 10 provinces centred on Kahramanmaraş. In a statement issued by MÜSİAD, it was announced that, in addition to in-kind aid for earthquake victims, a Container City would also be established in the region with the permission of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye and under AFAD coordination.
Having made more than 2,000 shipments to the disaster area since the date of the earthquake, MÜSİAD has provided earthquake victims with 500,000 ready meals, 800,000 loaves of bread, more than 4,200,000 bottles of water, close to 65,000 coats and boots, more than 150,000 blankets and 200 caravans. MÜSİAD volunteers who have reached the disaster area from every corner of the country are continuing their work without slowing down.
"We Are One and Together for Our Nation"
Sharing his assessments on the matter, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı said, "Through the matching coordination and division of duties MÜSİAD has established among its domestic branches, the field kitchens set up in 10 provinces are providing hot meals to our citizens affected by the earthquake without interruption. In addition, our volunteer teams are providing food and basic necessities to our citizens in the villages and neighbourhoods affected by the earthquake. We gather the basic food and necessities we obtain from facilities and warehouses across the country at our logistics centres in the disaster area and dispatch them immediately to the areas in need. We have begun work to set up a field hospital in the disaster area."
Stating that the international organizations are also contributing to this effort with all their might, President Asmalı emphasized that MÜSİAD branches and members in different parts of the world are acting in full coordination. President Asmalı added that convoys of trucks loaded with generators, hospital beds, wheelchairs, blankets, heaters and basic necessities, prepared with the contributions and coordination of members abroad, have set off from different locations abroad to be delivered to the disaster area.
In his statement, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı also recalled that they had supported the search-and-rescue efforts in the disaster area with a large number of construction machines, and said, "Today is the day for unity. We will heal our wounds together and rise to our feet together. We stand shoulder to shoulder with all our organizations for our country; we are one and together for our nation."
A Container City with 2,000 Container Homes Is Being Built in Kahramanmaraş Elbistan
In addition, the statement issued by MÜSİAD announced that a furnished Container City comprising 2,000 container homes would be built for citizens affected by the earthquake in the Elbistan area of Kahramanmaraş, with the permission of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye and under AFAD coordination.
Announcing that it had begun work on container homes in order to meet our citizens' shelter needs ahead of the permanent earthquake housing, MÜSİAD opened a separate donation account and invited those who wish to contribute to this donation campaign. The homes in the Container City have been designed to be 21 square metres, with a kitchen, bathroom and toilet. The homes will also contain white goods, an armchair and table, kitchenware and a heating system. At the same time, the container city area will have infrastructure and landscaping, a health centre, a nursery, a masjid, and administrative and service buildings.
In the statement, MÜSİAD said, “As we have done for 33 years, we will continue to be wherever our country needs us by saying ‘One and Together’; we will share our nation's sorrow and joy together”.
