Müge Öz, Chairwoman of the Women's Committee of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD), released a written statement regarding the discriminatory remarks directed at our headscarved teachers by a journalist on a TV channel in connection with the Distance Education programme launched by our Ministry of National Education.
Öz made the following statements in her declaration:
At a time when social peace and tranquility have been secured as never before, not a day passes without seeds of discord and discrimination being sown among brothers and sisters!
While the Distance Education programme launched by our Ministry of National Education ought to be appreciated and supported, unfortunately comments are being made about the attire of our teachers, and in a manner contrary to democracy and human rights, our headscarved teachers ,are being turned into a subject of polemic.
We are fully confident that the rhetoric of this moss-covered mentality will find no echo in the eyes of our nation today, just as it did not in the past. As MÜSİAD Women, at a time when we as a nation are passing through a critical period and need unity and solidarity more than ever, we strongly underline that no credence should be given to such broadcasts. On this occasion, we declare once again that with this rhetoric of hatred and discrimination you can never harm our brotherhood, our unity or our consciousness of being a nation.
