In his speech at the MÜSİAD Expanded Presidents Meeting, attended by Minister of Treasury and Finance Nureddin Nebati, Mahmut Asmalı, President of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD), pointed out that 2021 was a year in which Türkiye differentiated itself and came to the fore in every respect in the global arena.
Noting that Türkiye achieved significant successes last year in the fields of employment, exports, production and logistics, Asmalı used the expression, "We believe that 2022 will be a year in which the Türkiye economy exceeds the USD 250 billion export target, particularly with the increase in services exports."
Drawing attention to the fact that inflation, the principal problem of all countries, will be a priority agenda item in 2022, Asmalı commented, "Following the 'Turkish Lira Promotion Package' announced by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on 20 December 2021, the Turkish lira, which rapidly gained value against foreign currencies, considerably reduced the cost inflation pressure on prices in the domestic market. We believe that this process is a milestone for the Türkiye economy."
Emphasizing that expectations regarding the Türkiye economy this year have followed a positive course after the package in question, Asmalı said, "Our producers, our industrialists, our investors and our entrepreneurs are now far more hopeful about 2022."
"As MÜSİAD, we will fulfil every responsibility that falls to us"
Underlining that as MÜSİAD they support the New Economy Model, Asmalı continued as follows:
"A new economic model based on high exports, reducing the current account deficit and reflecting the welfare system across the whole of society has been built. In this process, as MÜSİAD we will fulfil every responsibility that falls to us. With the measures package in question, many factors putting upward pressure on the exchange rate have been eliminated, and the perception manipulation over the Turkish lira will also come to an end."
Expressing that 2022 will be a period in which the strong growth process for the Türkiye economy continues, Asmalı said, "We believe that the changes in domestic demand, net external demand and investments will each provide positive support to growth. We believe that growth in the Türkiye economy will, God willing, exceed market forecasts and come in at around 5 percent in 2022."
"We will continue to work with all our strength in 2022"
Noting that MÜSİAD members are hopeful about 2022, Asmalı said:
"A period has begun in which the New Economy Model instils confidence in producers, industrialists and investors. We have set sail for a brand-new year in which the capacity utilization of our investors, producers and industrialists will increase further, their domestic sales will rise, their export potential will strengthen, their new investments will gain speed, new employment opportunities will come to the fore and innovative opportunities will be seized. I would like to state that as MÜSİAD we will continue to work with all our strength in 2022 for a producing and strong Türkiye."
