The Reflections from Science to Art Exhibition, organized in cooperation with the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University in memory of Fuat Sezgin, opened today

 

The Reflections from Science to Art Exhibition, organized in cooperation with the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD) and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University (FSMVÜ) in memory of Fuat Sezgin, was presented to art lovers.

MÜSİAD President Abdurrahman Kaan, FSMVÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Fahameddin Başar, FSMVÜ Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Prof. Dr. M. Hüsrev Subaşı, and Rıdvan Duran, Member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Research on the History of Islamic Science (İBTAV) and Director General of the Press Advertising Agency, attended the opening of the Reflections from Science to Art Exhibition.

Prepared specially for the 2019 Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Year, the exhibition brings its works of calligraphy, illumination, miniature, carpet-kilim weaving, bookbinding and tile art together with art lovers at the MÜSİAD Head Office today.

The works of the instructors and students of the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts of the Faculty of Fine Arts, consisting of calligraphy, illumination, miniature, carpet-kilim weaving, bookbinding and tile art, were created with inspiration from subjects related to science.

Bringing together the scientists of the past with today's technologies, from astronomy to medicine and from optics to cinema, the artists also reflected the portrait of Fuat Sezgin in their works.

Consisting of the works of 25 artists, the exhibition can be visited at the MÜSİAD Head Office until 1 November.

The exhibition features works by Hüsrev Subaşı, Davut Bektaş, Betül Bilgin, Ali Toy, Latife A. Özel, Ayşe S. Aşlamacı, Nihal Aracı, S. Hilal Arpacıoğlu, Melike Kazaz, Sümeyye Saruhan, Yusuf Alp, Şükran S. Bayansar, Sümeyye Bayırsokak, Sibel Ç. Boncukçu, Selva Nur Çiçek, Barış Dolan, Aynur Koç, Büşra C. Küçük, M. Ali Özçelik, Şeniz Peker, Nilgün Tanyaş, Selda Taşdelen, Emin Tiryak, Nurten Türkdoğan and Esra Yavuz.

 

"We Attach Great Importance to Passing On Works Belonging to Turkish-Islamic Culture, Especially to Younger Generations"

 

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, MÜSİAD President Abdurrahman Kaan stated that, as MÜSİAD, they attach considerable importance to passing on works belonging to Turkish-Islamic culture especially to younger generations, and to freeing new generations from the influence of popular culture so that they embrace the works of art that emerge from our own basin of civilization and culture.

Kaan noted that, as in the past, MÜSİAD would continue to carry out cultural work at home and abroad in the coming period as well.

FSMVÜ Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Prof. Dr. M. Hüsrev Subaşı, for his part, said, "The exhibition consists of works prepared by the instructors, assistants, and graduate and undergraduate students of the FSMVÜ Faculty of Fine Arts in memory of our late professor Fuat Sezgin."

Subaşı said that Professor Fuat Sezgin was a scholar who opened a new era in the history of Islamic science.
