In August 2023 the seasonally and calendar adjusted SAMEKS Composite Index lost 0.6 points of momentum compared with the previous month and, at 50.3 points, continued its course just above the reference value.

In this period the Services Sector SAMEKS Index recorded an increase of 0.3 points compared with the previous month and rose to 51.8. The Industry Sector SAMEKS Index, on the other hand, lost 3.5 points of pace compared with the previous month and stood at 46.5. Thus, for the first time since February, when the Disaster of the Century occurred, the industrial sector pointed to a decline compared with the previous month.

As new orders in the industrial sector continued to lose momentum, the decline in production compared with the previous month became more pronounced. In the positive outlook in the services sector, as in previous months, the high level of input purchases was decisive. In August, while employment in both sectors signalled a decline compared with the previous month, delays were also observed in suppliers' delivery times.

As a result of these developments, the SAMEKS Composite Index, which stood at 50.3, indicated that the vibrant outlook for economic activity continued in August 2023 as well. However, this index value drew attention as the lowest of the last 6 months.
