MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı shared his assessments regarding the 2021 growth figures.

Mahmut Asmalı, President of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD), released a written statement on the 2021 GDP growth figures announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). In his assessment, President Asmalı used the following expressions: “The 11 percent GDP growth rate confirms our justified confidence in our national economy.”

The statement by President Asmalı is as follows:

“As MÜSİAD, even in periods when many institutions were making pessimistic forecasts, we expressed our confidence in the Turkish economy and stated at every opportunity that we expected a double-digit growth rate for 2021. In this framework, the 11 percent GDP growth rate is not a surprise for us; it confirms our justified confidence in our national economy.

The Turkish economy, which achieved 9.1 percent growth in the last quarter of the year, continued in this period as well to decouple positively with its existing capacity and capability in manufacturing, and reinforced its claim to be both a global and a regional production base.

The fact that domestic demand, net external demand and investments each made a positive contribution to growth in 2021 shows that the Turkish economy recorded across-the-board growth in this period. In particular, net external demand's 4.9-point contribution to growth is a highly positive development for the sustainability of growth.

Thanks to the New Economy Model put into practice under the leadership of our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the administration of our economy management, the Turkish economy will increase its claim within the global economy in 2022 as well and will grow above expectations in this period too.”
