The MÜSİAD Türkiye Consultation Meeting program themed "Türkiye, the Natural Logistics Centre of the World" was held in Mersin. Sharing his assessments at the program, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı stated that they believe the export target of USD 300 billion will be reached with the support of producers and industrialists as well.
The Türkiye Consultation Meeting, organized under the coordination of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD) Logistics Sector Board with the theme "Türkiye, the Natural Logistics Centre of the World", was held under the hosting of MÜSİAD Mersin.
Within the scope of the program, the panel sessions "Localization in the Supply Chain and Transit Trade", with the participation of MÜSİAD Logistics Sector Board Chairman Mehmet Metin Korkmaz, Director General of Customs Mustafa Gümüş, FIATA Honorary Board Member Kosta Sandalcı, Chairman of the TÜSİAD Transport and Logistics Working Group Ali Avcı and UND Vice Chairman Fatih Şener; "Coordination in Logistics and Qualified Logistics", with the participation of Ankara Logistics Base Chairman Erhan Gündüz, TOBB Sector Assembly Vice Chairman Aslan Kut, TOBB Truck Committee Member Tamer Dinçşahin, Mersin International Port Management General Manager Johan van Daele and Çukurova Airport Operation Chairman of the Board of Directors Süleyman Kozuva; and "Green Logistics and the Carbon Footprint", with the participation of LODER Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tanyaş, Ministry of Trade Deputy Director General of International Agreements and the EU Bahar Güçlü, İstanbul University Faculty of Logistics Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Demirci, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Head of the Planning Department Dr. Demet Cavcav and UTİKAD Board of Directors Member Bilgehan Engin, addressed the developments in the sector comprehensively.
Speaking at the program, President Asmalı said that the transport and logistics sector is important for the development of the world economy and international trade. Stating that supply chain processes are managed in the most effective way, Asmalı expressed that the country is advancing towards becoming the most preferred logistics centre in both distant and nearby geographies, particularly in the logistics sector. Pointing to the importance of Türkiye's geopolitical position, MÜSİAD President Asmalı said: "Transport and logistics capabilities have been added among the determining factors for production bases. In this context, Türkiye, which stands at a junction where three continents intersect and on the route between the world's economic centres and raw material resources, aims to derive the highest level of economic and political gain from the potential offered by its geopolitical position. We are increasing our strength in global trade along alternative routes" .
Explaining that carbon emissions are defined as one of the most important elements of global warming, Asmalı said:
"It is unthinkable for Türkiye, which has the largest fleet in Europe, to ignore green logistics practices. In the logistics process there are environmentally friendly practices in the services provided apart from transport as well. Work carried out so that the electricity, water and natural gas used in warehouses are consumed more economically, obtaining part of the electricity used from solar energy, making the warehouse suitable for greater use of daylight, and preventing unnecessary use of electricity inside the warehouse are also among these practices."
Stating that as MÜSİAD they will continue to conclude new collaborations that will encourage Türkiye to become one of the most preferred logistics centres in both nearby and distant geographies, Asmalı assessed: "It is the greatest wish of all of us that our country, which has turned into an international corridor in every mode of transport among Asia, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, the Caucasus and the Northern Black Sea countries, should have a logistics network held up as an example in foreign trade. We wholeheartedly believe that, with the support of our producers and industrialists who generate alternative solutions in the face of intense demand so as not to disrupt production and exports, we will all together reach the export target of USD 300 billion in the shortest possible time."
Following the opening speech, the program continued with the panels "Localization in Supply Chains and Transit Trade" and "Coordination in Logistics and Qualified Logistics".
