In August 2024 the seasonally and calendar adjusted SAMEKS Composite Index rose by 1.5 points compared with the previous month to a value of 46.8. Nevertheless, the index maintained its course below the reference value in this period as well and, following July, remained below the reference value in August too, confirming the slowdown in economic activity relating to the third quarter of the year.
In this period the Services Sector SAMEKS Index recorded an increase of 0.7 points compared with the previous month and stood at the level of 46.9. The Industry Sector SAMEKS Index, on the other hand, lost 3.1 points of pace compared with the previous month and fell to the level of 46.3.
In the services sector, the contraction in business volume continued as input purchases kept losing momentum. In the industrial sector, input purchases lost momentum owing to the decline recorded in new orders, and production continued to contract on a monthly basis.
Thus the negative effects of the monetary tightening conditions that began to become evident on the real sector in July continued in August as well.
