In October 2024 the seasonally and calendar adjusted SAMEKS Composite Index, although it rose by 1.8 points compared with the previous month to a value of 48.4, continued its course below the reference value.
In this period the Services Sector SAMEKS Index recorded an increase of 2.8 points compared with the previous month and stood at a level of 48.6. The Industry Sector SAMEKS Index, meanwhile, recorded a recovery of 1.3 points compared with the previous month and rose to a level of 45.9.
The continuation of the stagnant appearance of domestic demand under the effect of monetary tightening continued to be reflected negatively on production in the industrial sector and on business volume in the services sector.
With the sluggish course in business volume continuing in this period as well, the declining trend in the services sector reached its 4th consecutive month. In the industrial sector, meanwhile, despite the weak course in new orders, a rapid increase was recorded in input purchases; in contrast, the loss of production on a monthly basis continued in this period as well.
Thus the SAMEKS data for October indicated that the deterioration in the operating conditions of the real sector had reached its 4th consecutive month. Along with this, it was notable that, as the increases in the general level of prices entered a normalization trend in the recent period, input purchases presented a positive outlook in both sectors.
